Member Spotlight – Alan Mogridge

March 30th, 2013 by Kayleigh

Welcome to the Young Emerging Professional’s Member Spotlight, where we sit down with one of our members and see what they’re up to. Over the next several months we will introduce you to the YEP Team. These folks are the heart and soul behind our events and our mission.

This month we’re proud to present Alan C. Mogridge:

Alan Mogridge

Alan Mogridge

Employer: Valley YMCA

Title:  Executive Director

YEP: Tell us a bit about what you do?

AM: As the Executive Director for the Valley YMCA, I am responsible for establishing and implementing the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA within the community.  This involves all aspects of building an outstanding staff (hiring, supervising, and training), fundraising, property management, developing, and working with an involved volunteer board of managers and establishing the YMCA as an important force for local community development.

YEP: Tell us a bit about yourself?

AM: Prior to coming to the Valley YMCA, I was the Associate Executive Director of the Greater Waterbury YMCA.  My professional career began with the YMCA of Central & Northern Westchester, NY, where I was a Child Care Site Director.  I was hired as the Aquatic Director in 2002, and promoted to Senior Program Director in 2004.  I directly supervised the Aquatics department and managed the Wellness, Membership, and Sports & Teen departments.

The YMCA has always been a big part of my life.  Both of my parents have been with the YMCA for over 35 years, so I ‘grew up’ in the Y.  During high school and college, I worked in Y’s in Rye and Tarrytown, NY,  Norwalk, CT and Bangor, ME in aquatics, childcare, membership, day camping, resident camping, and maintenance.

I was a Division 1 college swimmer and received my bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Maine.  Currently, I live in Norwalk with my wife Diana.

YEP: What is your role with YEP?

AM: I’ve been involved with YEP for about a year.  I am a board member with YEP.  I sit on the Community Outreach Committee, and try to make it to as many YEPresents events as possible!

YEP: What is it about YEP that you like?

AM: We have a lot of fun, while doing great things for the communities we live in.  There is also the opportunity to network and make new friends.  I really enjoy being a part of YEP.

YEP: Future aspirations?

AM: I want to be the CEO of my own YMCA one day.  Other than that, I want to continue to work to make the communities I work and live in a better place for everyone!

YEP: Any fun facts or most interesting thing that’s ever happened to you?

AM: Well, I love to travel and a have been to many places around the world including Russia, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, England, France, and The Netherlands.

After college in 2000, I lived abroad in Australia for 6 months.  As part of my trip, I went on a 5-day live aboard SCUBA diving trip where I did 14 dives including night dives and a shark feed dive on Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea.  It was amazing!

YEPresent @ Liquid Lunch - April 2013

YEPresent @ Liquid Lunch – April 2013

Spring is finally upon us! Join YEP for our first Spring YEPresent on April 11th at Liquid Lunch on Research Drive in Shelton.

As some of you probably know, the Liquid Lunch on Research Drive is inside a corporate building on the lower level. That means there is plenty of parking! There is plenty of space inside the restaurant and the food is amazing.

This event is sure be fun, so don’t miss out. And don’t forget to bring your business cards!

Do some Spring cleaning! As you might have heard, My Sister’s Place has recently lost a great deal of their inventory due to smoke damage. Please take a few moments to look through your closets and kitchens and gather some items that are in good condition that you no longer need.

We will be collecting these items during our YEPresent to be donated to My Sister’s Place. Some items they need include clothing, jewelry, cups, plates, flatware, and other housewares.
