Since the start of the New Year, YEP has really started to gain some momentum. Our monthly YEPresent events (the second Thursday of each month) have begun to become a popular afterhours event. Since we change the location each month, it remains fresh so attendees get to try something new.

The April 2012 event YEP hosted took place at Sacred Heart University. The spotlight of the night was the Talking Finger presentation. Bill and Erik from Talking Finger spoke about Facebook security and how important it is to be conscious of what we post and what gets posted about us by others.

Our next YEPresent event will be held at Whiskey’s in Derby (used to be Tailgater’s). Hopefully the weather will be nice enough to enjoy the patio as we catch up with old friends and make some new ones.

YEP partners with Sacred Heart University for “SHU Connect” networking event

The Career Development and Placement Center at Sacred Heart University, is partnering with local young professional groups and Talking Finger, for its first annual young professional networking event, “SHU Connect”. Partnering groups are: YEP, PULSE, and M.O.D. Success. The event will take place at Sacred Heart University, in University Commons, April 12th 2012, 6:30pm-8:30pm. Also attending will be Sacred Heart University students (juniors and seniors) and recent alumni. There will be free appetizers and a cash bar. Throughout the evening we will hear from social media experts providing tips and insight on the importance of branding through social media. In addition, we will hear from the different young professional groups about their efforts. This event is designed to bring young professionals from the surrounding areas under one roof, and provide a hands-on networking experience for our up and coming young professional population.

Great turnout for YEPresent at Antonio’s

Last night’s YEPresent at Antonio’s was a huge success. In addition to our regular attendees we had dozens of new faces and some very talented karaoke singers. A special thanks goes to K-Dog Productions for doing an amazing job at karaoke and to Antonio’s for hosting the event and providing some great appetizers. We can’t wait to see everyone at next month’s YEPresent!

YEP presents check to Griffin Hospital

Last month YEP board members Tom Steeves & Chris Hill, along with GVCC president Bill Purcell, presented Griffin Hospital CEO Patrick Charmel with a check to support The Campaign for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital. The Campaign was a two year grassroots effort to raise 1 million dollars for The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness. Pink Night, which was held by the Young Emerging Professionals during the “Valley Goes Pink” fundraising effort in 2010 and 2011, was a great event that helped bring professionals of all ages together for a great cause. A big thank you goes to all those who made the Pink Night events a success, especially our sponsors and donors.

YEP helps collect “Toys 4 Kids”

This past Friday, members of YEP helped collect new, unwrapped toys in support of the TEAM Toys 4 Kids drive at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Holiday Breakfast Club & Year-End Award Celebration. The event was held at John J. Sullivan’s in Ansonia and recognized local businesses and individuals that have made a major impact in the valley area this past year. Thanks to everyone who donated a toy and helped make drive a great success!

Food Drive: Not too late to donate!

The Young Emerging Professionals will be hosting a food drive in conjunction with the runner registration on Wednesday 11/23 from 5 PM to 7 PM. We will also have a table set up on Thanksgiving morning for anyone who may want to donate any non-perishable items or canned goods.

There is a shortage of food for all areas in CT due to the recent power outages, so any donations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your support and we look forward to seeing you all there!
